Our Flagship Kitchen in Market House
A little more than your usual café
Tucked inside the historic Market House in the heart of St Austell, the café at Jake’s Bakes is a place for good food, great coffee and a warm welcome.
Since taking over the café, I’ve been on a journey to make the space something a little different. What started as a café serving the local community has gradually evolved into a space that reflects everything I love about food, baking and bringing people together.
Whether you're joining us for lunch, stopping by for your morning coffee, treating yourself to one of my bakes or simply taking a breather from a busy day, there's a place for you here.
We're proud to be an independent, locally run business, and we want the café to feel like somewhere you can pop in, feel comfortable and enjoy yourself. No fuss, no pretence - just good food, good coffee and a friendly face.
Our Menu Options
From a proper lunch to a little afternoon indulgence, there's plenty to enjoy at Jake’s Bakes.
Our menu brings together the savoury and the sweet, with options for those looking for a satisfying bite to eat and, of course, a tempting selection of bakes for which Jake’s Bakes is known.
Fancy a sandwich or a savoury treat? Looking for something sweet to go alongside your coffee? Or perhaps you're just browsing the counter to see what's caught your eye that day.
Whatever you're in the mood for, we'd love to see you.
Our menu evolves as we introduce new ideas and seasonal specials, so there's always the possibility of discovering a new favourite.
A café with a history
The Market House has been at the heart of St Austell for generations. The present building opened in 1844, but the site had already been used as a marketplace for decades before that.
For much of its history, the building was a bustling centre of local trade, with butchers on the ground floor and farmers and traders selling everything from fresh produce to dairy goods upstairs. Over the years, it has also been a meeting place, a cinema, a dance hall and much more.
The café continues that tradition of bringing people together in this remarkable building. The space has welcomed café customers for years, and we're delighted to be part of its continuing story.
Today, we're adding our own chapter — serving up homemade treats, satisfying lunches and vibrant coffee, while helping keep this historic corner of St Austell alive and welcoming.
Meet our coffee: Entoto
Some coffees simply wake you up. Others make you stop, take another sip and think, that's really good coffee.
Our Entoto coffee, supplied by The Coffee Company, definitely aims for the latter.
Made with 100% pure Arabica beans, Entoto has a wonderfully vibrant, fruity character that makes it stand out from your everyday cup. It's lively and expressive, with earthy and fruity aromas, subtle nutty and chocolatey notes, and a bright citrus finish.
It's a coffee with real personality: a robust body balanced by a refreshing acidity, giving every cup a depth of flavour without losing that fresh, vibrant character.
And we're not the only ones who think so. We regularly hear from customers who tell us it's the best coffee they've ever tasted. That's always lovely to hear — and a pretty good reason to give it a try yourself!
Whether you prefer a straight espresso, a smooth flat white or a comforting latte, Entoto brings something special to your cup.
A little more flavour in every cup
The beans: 100% pure Arabica.
The aroma: Earthy, fruity and inviting.
The flavour: Vibrant fruit with subtle chocolate and nutty notes.
The finish: Bright, fresh citrus.
The balance: A robust body with balanced acidity.
If you're a coffee lover, we'd love to hear what you think. And if you don't usually get excited about coffee, this might just be the cup that changes your mind.
Next time you're in St Austell, come and give Entoto a try. Find a seat, take a moment for yourself and discover what a really good cup of coffee can taste like.
